THE main reason why employees in Asia quit their jobs: they are unhappy with the pay. Or so says a study by human resource firm Hewitt Associates.
They found that 70 per cent of the best employers see a major connection between improved performance and higher salaries.
According to The Business Times, Nishchae Suri, the Head of Hewitt's Talent and Organization Consulting Analytics practice in Asia, was quoted as saying that Indian employers have 'increased investment' in compensation, they are not yet getting the 'strategic and financial results'.
A country-wise breakdown of employees who are unsatisfied with the moolah, according to the published survey:
73 per cent in Japan.
71 per cent in China.
51 per cent in Hong Kong.
44 per cent in India.
42 per cent in Singapore.
Dissatisfaction with compensation averages 54 per cent for Asia as a whole, amidst the battle for talent.
The pay must not only be fair but seen to be fair in terms of the job, and compared to the pay of other employees, said Suri noting that employers in Asia, are generally doing a bad job at this.
Poor communication on the part of employers is the main problem, particularly with the new breed of talent who seek to switch jobs more often and are becoming increasingly competitive.
Are you happy with YOUR salary ? Are you satisfied with the perks? Would you leave your current job for money? Or does the job profile matter? Spill the beans on the moolah !
