Wouldn't it be more fun to watch movies in a theatre? "I think watching movies at home is both a personal and comfortable experience," he says.
The DVD player and television are one-time investments but the recurring cost on DVDs could still be high. The advantages, however, override the expense.
One, Darshan says he can watch a movie any number of times on a DVD -- especially his favourites -- I Am Sam, Dead Poets Society, Amores Perros, Central Station, Days Of Being Wild and many more.
Two, he can also catch up on television series such as Lost, Prison Break and 24 on DVD.
These are his tips
a. Get a membership with DVD library. Darshan is a member at two movie libraries. It cost him Rs 1,500 each for a life membership.
One is his regular choice, which keeps aside DVDs for him whenever new movies come in. These cost Rs 70 to Rs 100 per DVD. The other membership is a backup of sorts for rare, old world cinema, which cost Rs 60 to Rs 70 per DVD.
b. There are online portals from where you can download movies. Since it is illegal, we will not be recommending any! Darshan says, "I don't download movies because that is piracy."
c. Investing in a Blu-ray player (high-definition video players), could be worth your while. A Blu-ray player would cost about Rs 24,000. Darshan plans to buy a Blu-ray player soon.
d. Darshan looked for clarity, audio quality and a flat screen while purchasing a television. He says, "I invested in a Sony. It has lasted over 10 years without any technical problems."
So what's left now? "I find a lot of technical bloopers in films. Now, my friends are waiting to watch my film and point out the goof-ups I will make," he grins.
