NO LUCK WITH MUTUAL FUNDS
THE loss in the stock markets was so large that no amount of fund management seemed to help! Mutual funds with exposure to the stock markets performed equally poorly. The one-year returns as on 29th December 2008:
Diversified equity funds: - 48.4 per cent
Balanced mutual funds: - 35.4 per cent
So Rs 1 lakh invested in diversified equity funds would have left you with merely Rs 52,000! You would be slightly better off in a balanced fund.
